How to Fix HMS 0700-7000-0002-0005: AMS Purge Failure
Bambu Lab HMS error code 0700-7000-0002-0005 is an AMS purge failure in the 0700-7000 filament management subgroup. After a filament change, the AMS system runs a purge cycle to extrude the mixed color or material from the nozzle before returning to the print. Suffix 0002-0005 indicates this purge cycle did not complete as expected.
What the Error Means
A purge failure means the printer was unable to extrude the required amount of material through the nozzle to clear the previous filament from the melt zone. This can happen if the nozzle is partially clogged (restricting extrusion during purge), if the purge temperature is not appropriate for the material being cleared, or if the extrusion monitoring system detects insufficient flow during the purge extrusion. A purge failure risks color contamination — the next printed section may contain remnants of the previous filament.
Step-by-Step Fix
- When the purge error appears, check the nozzle temperature. The printer should be at a temperature appropriate for both the outgoing and incoming material — typically the higher of the two temperatures.
- Manually extrude 20–30 mm of the new filament from the nozzle using the manual controls and observe whether material flows cleanly. If it flows but with resistance, the nozzle has a partial clog.
- If no material flows, perform a cold pull at 90 °C to clear any accumulated residue from the nozzle.
- Check the purge settings in Bambu Studio — the purge volume should be set to at least the minimum recommended value for your material transitions. Increase it if you have been experiencing color contamination.
- Confirm the purge tower dimensions are sufficient in the slicer settings — too small a purge tower reduces the amount of material that can be purged before the layer time runs out.
- After clearing any nozzle obstruction, retry the filament change from the printer menu.
- If the purge consistently fails with clean nozzle and correct temperatures, the extruder may be slipping — clean the extruder drive gear as described in the 0300-0800 guide.
Parts Required
- No replacement parts are typically required for most purge failures
- Replacement nozzle if a clog cannot be cleared
