How to Fix HMS 0700-2000-0002-0003: AMS Assist Motor Speed Error

Bambu Lab HMS error code 0700-2000-0002-0003 is an AMS assist motor speed fault within the 0700-2000 subgroup. Unlike the overcurrent error (0002-0002), which involves a sudden stall, suffix 0002-0003 indicates the motor is running but its measured speed differs significantly from the commanded speed — suggesting partial resistance in the feed path or a degraded motor.

What the Error Means

The AMS assist motor speed is monitored via encoder or tachometer feedback. A sustained speed discrepancy — where the motor is running slower than commanded — indicates increased mechanical load in the filament path, a worn motor bearing that is adding drag, or a motor winding that is partially failing and unable to reach commanded RPM under load. Filament that is slightly tangled (but not jammed) can also produce this error by adding intermittent tension.

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Remove the filament from the affected AMS slot and run the AMS motor manually (if your printer’s diagnostic menu supports this) to check whether it reaches speed without filament loaded.
  2. If the motor runs at correct speed without filament, the resistance is in the filament path. Inspect the spool for loose tangling or a filament edge catching on the spool hub.
  3. Reload the filament and manually guide it through the AMS slot entrance. If you feel resistance at any point, clear the obstruction before relying on the motor.
  4. Inspect the AMS PTFE guiding tube for partial kinks or tight bends that add friction without fully blocking the path.
  5. Listen for unusual motor sounds (high-pitched whining or intermittent slipping) that suggest bearing degradation.
  6. Clean the drive wheel as described for error 0002-0001 — a partially clogged wheel reduces grip and can cause apparent speed errors as the filament slips.
  7. Replace the motor assembly if the no-load speed test also fails.

Parts Required

  • AMS assist motor assembly if bearing or winding failure is confirmed
  • PTFE guide tube section if kinks are found
